Founded in 2006, Beats by Dr. Dre is probably the most popular brand of headphones. Brainchild of American record producer and rapper, Andre Young, aka Dr. Dre and the co-founder of Interscope Records, Jimmy Iovine, this brand has only gone on to reach heights of fame and success. What’s the philosophy that stands behind this brand? In Dr. Dre’s words, it is “to bring music to the listener as it was recorded by the artist”.

Let’s talk about the brand’s history. In 2008, Beats by Dre. Dre was being manufactured by premium brand Monster Inc and was exclusively sold by Best Buy and Apple in retail and online stores. What was next? In 2009, Beats by Dre and Monster teamed up with singing starlet Lady Gaga to lend her already very popular fashionable and pop musical image to create ‘Heart Beats’. Like Gaga, Beats counts to its name an endless list of celebrity endorsements including Serena Williams, LeBron James and more. In the year 2013, Beats by Dr. Dre’s value was estimated at 1 billion dollars. Coming as a surprise to many, and probably the most momentous event in Beats’s history, 2014 had Apple buying Beats for a whooping 3.2 Billion dollars; by far Apple’s largest acquisition ever.
