The OPPO UDP-205 Signature 4K UHD Blu-ray player is the most advanced and accurate 4k audiophile player available on the market. the UDP-205 Signature is a ordinal hub intended to contract the finest presentation from your music or movie library
AC Noise Reduction
In conventional audio/video equipment, a traditional mains filter is used and while the better quality filters remove a degree of noise they are inadequate, often introducing negative effects. For the Oppo UDP-205 Signature, Audiocom utilises an unusual answer that eradicates ambience and affords dissolute current stream. This recompenses in picture quality that is extra engaging and tangible. The sound has an enhanced perception of space and dimensionality, with improved coherence and naturalness.
Custom Low Noise Linear Power Supply
Ordinarily Blu-ray player’s use switch mode power supplies (SMPS). The switching from these power supplies introduces noise which inevitably is introduced to the circuitry. Due to the high-frequency switching of these supplies, they also create RFI which in turn affects the video and audio signal.
In contrast, the Oppo UDP-205 signature has a high-end linear power source with mechanisms specifically nominated for their low din presentation to bring silent, clean power to the electrical structure. For video, there is greater detail, truer colours, a more dynamic contrast, improved image stability, and better depth. Likewise, digital and analogue audio is remarkably upgraded with improved mastery, enlarged resolution, more depth, and wider more spacious soundstage.
Custom, Precision CNC Parts
When a Blu-ray or SACD disc is played the high speed can cause unwanted vibrations and reduced disc read accuracy. The freshly developed 4K disc transference variations use bespoke, precision CNC slices to swap motorised workings in the drive with extremely exact and tremendously firm constituents. This ensures rigid disc clamping and resonance control, providing the highest level of data retrieval and lowest jitter.
High-Performance Power Supplies – Oppo UDP-205
Analogue audio sound quality is largely influenced by its power supply. Audiocom strives to reduce unwanted noise and losses that affect the signal for cleaner signal and purer sound. In the 205 Signature, the analogue power supplies were upgraded to achieve maximum fidelity.
Discrete, Ultra-low Noise Regulation
The analogue audio segment power supplies have been enhanced to exploit the ES9038RO Sabre DAC and the allied audio stages. Conventional regulators are replaced with discrete, ultra-low noise types which have 1/168 output noise and nearly 2000 times the Ripple noise rejection (PSRR). This enables a very low noise floor, while improving dynamic range and stereo separation.
To realise the full potential of the ES9038PRO chipset, you must achieve lowest phase noise (jitter). The clock selected for the Oppo UDP-205 Signature has an astounding 68 Femtoseconds jitter RMS (frequency measurement 100 Hz to 100 kHz), that’s 0.068 Picoseconds, amongst the lowest in the industry. The clock has an ultra-low noise distinct controller motherboard. The application of this femto clock copiously heightens the ES9038PRO so its true potential can be achieved.
Active EMI/RFI Noise Reduction
The operating conditions of video and audio are much improved when they can work in quiet environment. Video processing inside any Blu-ray player produces its own clamour as well as submitting to outside noise which can distress the player’s complete act. To achieve the quietest electrical conditions, Audiocom uses materials to absorb the unwanted EMI/RFI and improve electron flow to achieve constantly the best performance regardless of the surroundings.
Oppo UDP-205 4K UHD Blu-ray Player is designed for the audiophile and sets a benchmark for performance combining 4K video playback with reference quality analogue audio. This version has been tweaked by Audiocom to offer multizone and multiregion support.
Everyone for whom the theme of high-quality sound and the correct picture from one source is relevant is at least heard of the OPPO BDP-105D Blu-ray Player. This device for the last couple of years was considered one of the most successful for home theater in terms of its functional capabilities and performing talents. However, the massive transition of TVs to 4K matrixes and the emergence of Ultra HD Blu-ray at once pushed the Full HD equipment into the second echelon.
Isolated power supplies for the digital and analogue circuit board practically removes damaging intrusion. The correspondent circuitry is power-driven by an immense toroidal power convertor for greater effectiveness and pointedly inferior external magnetic intrusion likened to the old-style coated steel core.

However, for us the situation is greatly mitigated by the fact that not a single localized film on ultra-high definition discs in Australian stores can still be found. By the way, few people know that some international releases contain subtitles, and sometimes (albeit extremely rarely) even soundtracks in Australia.
But, anyway, and the video content in 4K every day becomes more and more, so that none of the developers can afford to ignore its existence. OPPO Digital responded to the new trend with an enviable efficiency – first with the ultra-high definition player UDP-203, and now with the uncompromising audiophile model UDP-205.
Relative connections of the new player with the BDP-105D are guessed at first glance, even the profile of the metal front panel is identical. The most striking difference is the increased display screen, which is now placed not on the side, but on top of the optical drive tray. And from the front panel, the HDMI / MHL port disappeared, which is absolutely logical – the idea of driving video from mobile gadgets over the wire has long lost its relevance.
The absence of the letter “D” in the designation of the new model indicates the absence of the additional Darbee Visual Presence video processor. In the past generation of players, it was used to improve picture clarity by optimizing it using sophisticated algorithms developed by Paul Darby. Now, the OPPO developers reasonably reasoned that with the advent of technologies like 4K and HDR, the need for expensive artificial enhancers has finally disappeared.
From the back side the devices are almost indistinguishable. Only after looking closely, you can notice the appearance of the two two-fifths of two sockets for trigger mini-jacks and ground terminals.
However, the appearance is deceptive: a pair of USB connectors now conform to specification 3.0, and the Ethernet port from 100-megabit has become gigabit.
A set of two pairs of very good balanced and ordinary linear output connectors remained in the same place as the digital audio ports. The most valuable of them is the asynchronous USB input, which turns the player into a high-end external DAC with support for DSD512 and PCM with a sampling frequency of up to 768 kHz.
The HDMI outputs of the UDP-205 progressed to version 2.0b, more precisely, only one of them, since the second is now designed exclusively for outputting audio streams to a receiver or an external surround processor. About the value of this solution, as well as about many other details of the work of the video path of the models of the new generation, we described in detail in the UDP-203 test. All this information is also relevant for UDP-205, since the video path for both devices seems to be almost identical. Let me remind you that it is built on a custom OP8591 chip, specially developed by MediaTek for OPPO. In fact, this is a quad-core processor with an ARM architecture, in which the hardware level supports a variety of functions for processing ultra high-definition video content, including decoding of H.264, HEVC, VP9 4K and Hi10P streams.
But on the implementation of the sound part, our subject is much closer not to his brother, but to the audiophile progenitor of the BDP-105D. However, the differences are quite weighty in both cases.
The digital path of the BDP-105D was built on the ES9018 DAC – the top representative of the respected, but far from young, Saber 32 Reference line, developed by ESS Technology back in 2008. Last year, it was replaced by new 32-bit SabrePro chips, led by the flagship ES9038PRO, which, as you may have guessed, became the soul of the “two hundred and fifth.” It differs from ES9018 by the separate power supply of I / O, control and conversion units, DSD support over PCM, as well as the presence of a completely new programmable non-linear distortion compensation unit. And ES9038PRO is interesting for a record dynamic range – 140 dB. For the linear output of the UDP-205 itself, this parameter exceeds 120 dB.
The chip is eight-channel, so the developers simply took the second ES9038PRO, and built a multi-channel output on it. Let me remind you that in the junior UDP-203, the analog signal 7.1 is formed by the Asahi Kasei Microdevices DAC AK4458VN.
Another significant difference from the younger brother is a separate linear power supply for analog circuits, built on a toroidal transformer.
The two models use the same OPPO proprietary disk transport, but in our case it is mounted on a two-layer chassis with improved anti-vibration properties. The drive reads almost all 5-inch laser discs of household formats, with the exception of long-rarities DVD-RAM and HD-DVD.
